Department Profile:
The Department
of Electrical Engineering is one of the major departments of the institute. The
department runs 3 years Diploma course in Electrical Engineering stream.
Students passing out from the department get absorbed in the State Electricity
Boards of the North East government departments, and various industrial &
corporate houses. Some also opt for higher studies in the Engineering colleges
of the state and outside.
At present,
there are seven faculty members and two supporting staff in the department. The
department has six laboratories and a proposal to set up new ones is on the
anvil.
In addition to
running regular Diploma course in the Electrical Engineering, the department
runs Industrial Training course for the employees of the regional Electricity
Corporations like the NEEPCO and the Power Grid.
Vision of
the Department
To be a
center of excellence producing Electrical Engineering Diploma holders having
sound technical knowledge with a curious and innovative approach towards their
field of work.
Mission of the Department
a)
To prepare students for more creativity, innovativeness and ‘out-of-the-box’
thinking.
b) To inculcate integrity and honesty through
curricular and extra-curricular activities.
c) To design and develop short term job
oriented courses for the students enhancing placement and entrepreneurship
prospects.
d) To produce technicians who will be able
to solve the technical problems for future tech-society in the field of
Electrical Engineering.

Students’ intake:
The yearly intake of the department is 40 for regular three-year
Diploma course. Students from all over state and also from North –Eastern
states come to study here.

Engineering:
The department
has taken part on the following activities in addition to running regular
Diploma Course:

- Sound Engineering Course in
association with Jyoti Chitraban Studio, Guwahati.
- Domestic Appliances Repair under
Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Scheme of MHRD
Internal Revenue Generation:
The department
conducts the following IRG courses:
- AutoCAD (with Civil &
Electrical Projects) for students & professionals.
- Computer Applications.
- Domestic Appliances Repair for
technicians.
- Internal House Wiring for
technicians.

Training & Placement Activities:
Job interviews on
campus are conducted by the Training & Placement Cell of AEI every year for
Final Year students. Some of the companies where electrical engineering
students have been absorbed, besides the State & Central Government
Departments, Public Sector Undertakings and the State Electricity Boards are:

Laboratories: Maintenance and overall ambiance
The various activities are carried out in order to keep the lab
equipment serviceable condition. All the maintenance work is done as per
manufacturer maintenance schedule or general maintenance schedule.
Cleaning of lab equipment and surroundings is done every day. Apart
from cleaning lubricating and greasing is done on electrical machine
periodically. The following activities are carried out in order to maintain the
ambience of the lab:
a) Cleaning of complete surrounding and lab is
carried out on every day.
b) For the purpose of proper light and
utilization glass paint windows are provided on north, east and south side of
the lab.
c) Artificial light for proper illumination
and adequate numbers of fans are installed for cooling.
d) Large numbers of trees are planted around
the lab to keep the surrounding cool and it reduces the carbon dioxide from the
environment, which create a sustainable environment.
e) The outside and inside of the walls are
painted brightly which provide a comfortable environment and it reduces the
monotony of the student
Flower beds have been laid in front of the lab to beautify the
surroundings.
